Module 1- Engineering Graphics Standards and CAD Sketching
• Introduction to BIS Specification for line conventions, dimension, tolerance representation, basic terminology of GD&T, feature control frame, tolerance characteristic and symbols, modifiers and surface texture symbols
• Thread Forms: Thread terminology, Thread conventions, ISO Metric (Internal & External), BSW (Internal & External), Acme and Sellers Thread. Representation of Hexagonal headed bolt and nut assembly with washer.
• Orthographic Views: Conversion of pictorial views into orthographic views of simple machine parts with and without section. (Bureau of Indian Standards conventions are to be followed for the drawings), Precedence of lines, Basics of geometric dimension, Overview of industrial drawings. (Component drawing to be done in CAD software)
• Overview of CAD software interface, environment of 2D Sketching:
Sketch tools: line, circle, arc, spline
Constraints: geometric & dimensional
Editing tools and construction geometry
Module 2- Parametric Part Modelling
• Introduction to parametric modeling
• Basic part modeling:
Extrude, Revolve, Cut, Sweep
• Dimensioning standards (ISO)
• Practice Exercises:
Simple machine components (washer, bracket, flange)
• Advanced features:
Fillet, Chamfer, Shell, Draft
• Patterning:
Linear, circular, mirror
• Hole features:
Threaded holes, standard hole tables
• Rib and thin features
• Editing and modification tools
• Practice Exercises:
Knuckle joint components, Connecting rod, Spanner, Cranking Handle, Bearing bracket (part modeling)
Module 3- Assembly Modelling and Engineering Documentation
• Drafting environment
• Orthographic projections & sectional views
• Dimensioning and annotations
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Limits, fits and tolerances
• Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Title block and standards
• Exporting drawings (PDF, DWG)
• Assembly environment in CAD software
• Bottom-up and top-down assembly
• Assembly constraints: Mate, align, insert, angle
• Exploded views
• Interference detection
• Keys and Coupling: Assembly of muff coupling with taper sunk key & protected flange coupling with sunk key.
